Beef Picadillo is a traditional dish in many Latin American countries including the Philippines. It is made with ground meat (often beef, pork may be used too), tomatoes (canned tomatoes may be used or substitute with tomato sauce), and also raisins, potatoes, green peas, olives, and other ingredients that vary by region.
Beef Picadillo is often served with rice. Some Filipinos also call it as arroz a la cubana, (“Cuban-style rice”) or used as a filling in dishes such as tacos or empanadas.
Picadillo is originated from the Spanish word picar, meaning “to mince”.

How to cook this easy beef picadillo recipe
The first thing that you need to do is saute the onions and garlic. The ground beef is then added to the pan and cooked until brown.
The canned tomatoes are then added to the pan (you may substitute chopped fresh tomatoes) followed by the raisins. Mix well. The beef broth is then added and allow to simmer for 10 minutes.
The potatoes and carrots are then added and let simmer for another 5 more minutes. We could then add the green peas. Continue simmering for another 2 minutes.
Add salt and pepper according to your preferred taste. Finally add the olives and simmer for another 2 minutes.
Turn of the heat and enjoy your beef picadillo!
